National Training Event (NTE)

NTE is a conference run by the national movement we are affiliated with, the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students.

1700 students from around Australia, the South Pacific and the world gather in Canberra to hear fantastic Bible teaching and to learn how to help others know Jesus better.

Each year a group from CU JCU attend and it’s a conference not to be missed.

NTE has two parts- a conference and a mission.
The conference is in Canberra from 2nd-6th December 2017. There will be about 1700 people from around Australia and student movements around the world. It involves main talks- this year the theme is ‘The gospel shaped life’, small groups learning how to understand and share the Bible, electives on practical skills in ministry and mission and seminars helping us life the gospel shaped life. You can check more here

The second part of the conference is joining with a church for 5 days of mission. It’s a great chance to have a go putting into practise the things we learn at the conference.
The mission teams are organised through the individual CU groups.

We are running two missions, one before and one after the conference. You just choose one. Please let Tim Earnshaw know which mission you are hoping to go on.

Mission to Mackay. Saturday 25th to Wednesday 29th November we are joining with Mackay Evangelical Church (MAKE). This is an exciting new mission as we partner with this church for the first time. There are several CU grads who are and have been a part of MAKE and as a close neighbour it’s exciting to see our partnership develop. The mission will involve sharing with the Christians at MAKE as they reach their local community. We will be billeted for the duration in the homes of members of the church. You can check out more about the church on their website here mackayevangelicalchurch.com

In terms of transport we will drive down to Mackay Saturday morning the 25th November and drive back to Townsville Thursday morning the 29th.

Mission to Western Sydney. Wednesday the 6th to Monday the 11th December we are joining with Kurrajong Anglican Church. This is a church we partnered with last year and it’s terrific to be able to go back again. It is situated in a semi rural community on the western fringe of Sydney. We will be billeted in the homes of members of the church and be involved with them as they seek to reach their community with the news of Jesus. You can check out more about the church on their website here kurrajonganglicanchurch.org.au

In terms of transport we will organise lifts for you from the conference in Canberra to Sydney on Wednesday the 6th December and you will need to arrange flights home.

Flights– most people fly down either direct to Canberra or to Sydney and then a bus to Canberra. Regardless of what mission you are on you need to fly to arrive in Canberra on Friday the 1st of December as the conference starts at 10am the next day. We will arrange accomodation for you on Friday night in Canberra at the Y-WAM base which is right next door to the conference site (cost around $25 for dinner, Friday night accomodation and breakfast).

Return flights will depend on what mission you go on. If you are doing the Mackay mission before NTE you can fly home when the conference finishes on Wednesday 6th Dec. Be sure to book flights after 3pm if flying out of Canberra or after 7pm if flying out of Sydney.

If you are doing the Mission to Western Sydney you can fly out of Sydney on Monday the 11th December.

The main costs are;
Conference fees: ~$335
Flights ~$400 return

Friday night accomodation at Y-WAM: ~$25

I know this is pricey and so we’d love to help. Please contact Julia if you would like to apply for financial assistance. But please believe me when I say it’s worth every penny. Also if you have money you could give to help another student go to NTE please let a staff worker or someone from the executive know.

It might seem pretty complicated so if you have questions or things you’d like us to clarify, please contact us or chat to someone who has been to NTE before.
