National Training Event (NTE)

NTE is a conference run by the national movement we are affiliated with, the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students.

2000 students from around Australia, the South Pacific and the world gather in Canberra to hear fantastic Bible teaching and to learn how to help others know Jesus better.

Each year a group from CU JCU attend and it’s a conference not to be missed.
You can register here, the information below will help you with the details.

NTE has two parts- a conference and a mission.
The conference is in Canberra from 1st-5th December 2018. There will be about 2000 people from around Australia and student movements around the world. This year the theme is ‘The True and Living God of all Nations’ with speakers Kevin DeYoung and Richard Chin. It involves main talks, small groups learning how to understand and share the Bible and electives on practical skills in ministry and mission. You can check more here. You need to register yourself on the NTE website.

A few notes – most of us stay in the ‘dormitory’ option – bedding and towels are provided. You can pick the ‘camping’ option if you prefer, but need to bring a tent and bedding with you. Also, don’t pick the Friday night accommodation option when you register, as we organise to stay together at a cheaper place right next to the conference site.

The second part of the conference is joining with a church for 5 days of mission. It’s a great chance to have a go putting into practise the things we learn at the conference.
The mission teams are organised through the individual CU groups.

We are running two missions, one before and one after the conference. You just choose one. Please let Tim Earnshaw know which mission you are hoping to go on.

Mission to Atherton. Saturday 24th to Wednesday 28th November we are joining with The Tablelands Presbyterian Church. This is an exciting new mission although we have along partnership with this church through visits during MYC. The mission will involve sharing with the Christians at at Tablelands Presbyterian as they reach their local community. We will be billeted for the duration in the homes of members of the church. You can check out more about the church on their website here

In terms of transport we will drive to Atherton on Saturday morning the 24th November and home on Wednesday afternoon of the 28th.

Mission to Western Sydney. Wednesday the 5th to Monday the 10th December we are joining with Kurrajong Anglican Church. This is a church we partnered with the last couple of years and it’s terrific to be able to go back again. It is situated in a semi rural community on the western fringe of Sydney. We will be billeted in the homes of members of the church and be involved with them as they seek to reach their community with the news of Jesus. You can check out more about the church on their website here

In terms of transport we will organise lifts for you from the conference in Canberra to Sydney on Wednesday the 5th December and you will need to arrange flights home.

Flights– most people fly down either direct to Canberra or to Sydney and then a bus to Canberra. Regardless of what mission you are on you need to fly to arrive in Canberra on Friday the 30th of November as the conference starts at 10am the next day. We will arrange accommodation for you on Friday night in Canberra at the Y-WAM base which is right next door to the conference site (cost around $25 for dinner, Friday night accommodation and breakfast).

Return flights will depend on what mission you go on. If you are doing the Atherton mission before NTE you can fly home when the conference finishes on Wednesday 5th Dec. Be sure to book flights after 3pm if flying out of Canberra or after 7pm if flying out of Sydney.

If you are doing the Mission to Western Sydney you can fly out of Sydney on Monday the 10th December.
After you have registered for NTE, let us know which mission team you would like to join

The main costs are:
Conference fees: ~$355-375 (depending when you register – there’s a $60 discount if you’re traveling from North QLD, that is subtracted on the second screen)
Flights: ~$400 return (if you fly into Sydney, the coach to Canberra is ~$30)

Friday night accomodation at Y-WAM: ~$25
Mission costs: ~$50 (1-2 meals, thank you gifts for hosts, public transport)

We know this is pricey and so we’d love to help. Please contact Julia if you would like to apply for financial assistance. But please believe us when we say it’s worth every penny. Also if you have money you could give to help another student go to NTE please let a staff worker or someone from the executive know.

It might seem pretty complicated so if you have questions or things you’d like us to clarify, please contact us or chat to someone who has been to NTE before.
