NTE

NTE

National Training Event (NTE)

NTE is a conference run by the national movement we are affiliated with, the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students.

Around 2000 students from around Australia, the South Pacific and the world gather in Canberra to hear fantastic Bible teaching and to learn how to help others know Jesus better.

There are strands for international students, and people looking into who Jesus is.

Each year a group from CU JCU attend and it’s a conference not to be missed.
You can register here, the information below will help you with the details.

NTE has two parts- a conference and a mission.
Conference
The conference is in Canberra from 30 November-4 December 2019. There will be about 2000 people from around Australia and student movements around the world. This year the theme is ‘Encountering God’ with speakers David Walter and Richard Chin. It involves main talks, small groups learning how to understand and share the Bible and electives on practical skills in ministry and mission. You can check more here. You need to register yourself on the NTE website.

A few notes – most of us stay in the ‘dormitory’ option – bedding and towels are provided. You can pick the ‘camping’ option if you prefer, but need to bring a tent and bedding with you. Also, don’t pick the Friday night accommodation option when you register, as we organise to stay together at a cheaper place right next to the conference site.

Mission
The second part of the conference is joining with a church for 5 days of mission. It’s a great chance to have a go putting into practise the things we learn at the conference.
The mission teams are organised through the individual CU groups.

We are running two missions, one before and one after the conference. You just choose one.

PreNTE Mission to Atherton – 23-27 November with Tablelands Presbyterian Church

PostNTE Mission to Sydney – 4-9 December with Kurrajong Anglican Church

Flights– most people fly down either direct to Canberra, or to Sydney and then a bus to Canberra. Regardless of what mission you are on you need to fly to arrive in Canberra on Friday the 29th of November as the conference starts at 10am the next day. We will arrange accommodation for you on Friday night in Canberra at the Y-WAM base which is right next door to the conference site (cost around $25 for dinner, Friday night accommodation and breakfast).

Return flights will depend on what mission you go on. If you are doing the mission before NTE you can fly home when the conference finishes on Wednesday 4th Dec. Be sure to book flights after 3pm if flying out of Canberra or after 7pm if flying out of Sydney.

If you are doing the mission after NTE you can fly out of Sydney on Monday the 9th December.
After you have registered for NTE, let us know which mission team you would like to join

Costs
The main costs are:
Conference fees: ~$340-455 (depending when you register and accommodation type – there’s a $60 discount if you’re traveling from North QLD, that is subtracted on the second screen – so if you register before September 4th, for a dormitory the cost is $375)
Flights: ~$400 return (if you fly into Sydney, the coach to Canberra is ~$30)

Friday night accomodation at Y-WAM: ~$25
Mission costs: ~$50 (1-2 meals, thank you gifts for hosts, public transport)

Got more questions? Check here or email Julia

We know this is pricey and so we’d love to help. Please contact Julia if you would like to apply for financial assistance. But please believe us when we say it’s worth every penny. Also if you have money you could give to help another student go to NTE please let a staff worker or someone from the executive know.

It might seem pretty complicated so if you have questions or things you’d like us to clarify, please contact us or chat to someone who has been to NTE before.
